Video was an element I refrained from adding as I assumed it would be overwhelming as its typically views in isolation form adjacent posts/content.

However, adding it only served to help tell the story. Especially videos from social media which are usually concise and communicate a lot visually with subtitles for instance.

This takes me back to a design I considered earlier, influenced by this piece by Bruce Nauman, that would show the same story at different stages in time in a grid. (Above is the same video played back at different delays).
After the final crit, I got some interesting feedback and here is my response to some of the comments. To address the issues would take longer than I have but, I have made small changes to improve the product in response.
In response to giving the user more control over the sources I added an option to highlight selected authors/publishers. I did it this way because I still wanted to show a variety of sources, not ones the user biases to.
Ideally I would position this as a chrome extension or an option in a share menu/sheet for someone to further explore an article they are reading, but in the meantime, copying the google maps model I added a clipboard button under the search.
Finally, the most difficult. This was to provide an indication of what the vis would look like before generating it. I added a histogram to the back of the Google Trends buttons that shows up after you pause over hovering the button. Otherwise it was way to distracting.

However, in the future I would like to include graphics more on par with this.
